No, ostriches cannot fly. They are flightless birds due to a number of factors:
Flat breastbones: Ostriches’ flat breastbones lack the keel that anchors the strong pectoral muscles needed for flight.
Small wings: Ostriches’ small wings cannot lift their heavy bodies off the ground.
High body weight: Ostriches are the largest and heaviest living birds. Adult common ostriches weigh between 63.5 and 145 kilograms.
Ostriches are the fastest running birds in the world, able to run continuously at speeds of 30-37 mph and sprint up to 43 mph.2 Comments

Ostrich meat is considered a healthy alternative to beef and poultry. It’s a lean red meat that’s lower in saturated fat and higher in protein than beef, deer, and many poultry. Ostrich meat is also low in fat, sodium, and fat-to-protein ratio, and high in iron. It’s also a good source of potassium, selenium, and B vitamins.
Ostrich meat is often considered a delicacy due to its unique taste, lean protein content, and low fat levels. It’s versatile and easy to cook, and is on the menu of many fine restaurants. Ostrich meat can be eaten rare, or eaten raw as tartare or carpaccio. Cook to an internal temperature of 125°F for a rare steak, or to 150°F for medium-well.
Some say that ostrich meat is too lean and can be tough to cook. Others say that sampling ostrich steak is a great place to start.
