Depression, also known as major depressive disorder or clinical depression, is a mood disorder
that can cause a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. It can affect how you think, feel, and behave, and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems.
Some signs and symptoms of depression include:
Continued feelings of sadness, hopelessness, pessimism
, or emptiness
Fatigue or lack of energy
Insomnia or other sleep issues
Depression can be caused by a mix of events and factors, including:
-Stressful life events, such as the death of a loved one, trauma, divorce, isolation, and lack of support
-Medical conditions, such as chronic pain and chronic conditions like diabetes
-Medication, as a side effect
To receive a diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder, some of these signs and symptoms must be present nearly every day for at least two weeks.
Some coping strategies for depression include:
-Staying in touch
-Being more active
-Facing your fears
-Not drinking too much alcohol
-Trying to eat a healthy diet
-Having a routine
