      Nigeria’s literacy rate has been increasing steadily, from 68.11% in 2010 to 77.62% in 2021. However, the literacy rate varies by gender and region in Nigeria:
      Gender
      In 2018, the literacy rate for men in rural areas was 60%, while the rate for women in the same areas was 35%. The gap in urban areas was about 10 percentage points.
      Region
      In 2018, the literacy rate for men in the North Central zone was 72.9%, while the rate for women in the same zone was 49.6%.
