November 12, 1968: Prelude to a suicidal attack.
Mercenary commanders employed by the secessionist state of Biafra in the process of planning an attack on a defensive Nigerian position near Onitsha.
The three mercenaries are from left: Belgian Marc Goosens, South African ‘Taffy’ Williams and Corsican Armand Ianarelli.
They were commander of the mercenary-led Biafra 4 Commando Division.
Goosens was killed leading his Abaliki Strike Force in a suicidal frontal assault later that day.
His death was filmed by a French film crew. Goosens was shot in the heart and liver.
