• 1 year, 11 months agoWe were travelling when our bus broke down in the middle of nowhere.
It was a strange land and I knew nobody or anyone.
I was confused about what to do.
Was still thinking when one of the passengers who had taking a liking to me, approached me and said;
“My son, do you have anywhere to go or sleep for the night?”
The man was elderly. Approaching his 60s from my estimate.
I told him no, that I was stranded as it stood.
He then offered me a place to rest my head, that his house wasn’t too far here.
I didn’t have a choice. It was rather I slept in this bush or take the risk with a stranger.
So, we both took a cab and spent another 45 minutes on the road.
We got to his house and were welcomed by his wife and children; five grown up girls actually.
The man spoke his dialect to the wife and immediately, she instructed one of her daughters whom I assume to be the eldest, to go prepare the guest room for me.
A modest house, I would say.
I sat down and was answering some questions about who I am and what I do.
The girl came out and said she was done.
The mother gave her further instructions to go run a bath for me.
As if she knew. It was freaking cold and I needed a hot shower.
The bath was ran in no time and I entered the guest room to go take a shower.
Came out to meet pounded yam and a strange soup waiting for me.
The soup turned out to be delicious.
I ate to my fill, drank some of the juice and thanked the man and his wife for their hospitality.
I conversed with them for a few minutes, before excusing myself to go retire to bed, because I needed to wake up early to continue my journey.
This was around 12 midnight.
Around 1am in the morning, a knock on the door woke me up.
I asked the person to come in and it turned out to be the eldest daughter, who prepared the guest room and ran my bath.
“Errmmm…” She stuttered while fondling with her hair.
“Is there a problem?” I asked her.
“Errmmm. My mum said I should come and ask you if you’re feeling cold, so I can come and keep you warm for the night.”
Benue State.
