This is the rearing/culturing of finfish/shellfish, aquatic plant or any other aquatic animal in a control environment. It’s a control environment because u constantly manage the system (pond) to be suitable for the stocked fish. This venture involves the knowledge of water management (physico-water parameters, effluent control) aquaculture management, feed formulation and feed management, disease control and management, broodstock management and hatching/fries management, marketing/value addition etc.

Any fish that have fin is called finfish. We are more comcern here with culturable finfish. I.e catfish, tilapia, carp, arawana, snakehead fish.

Planktons (zooplankton) i.e coppode, artemia, are culture. Phytoplankton like algea are also culture. Aquatic plant like dockweed are cultured.
